It isn’t often that the world of cosmetology and college sports are mentioned in the same story. However, that is exactly what happened this past week. Just in case you are not a college football fan, last weekend the Tennessee Volunteers upset the Florida Gators by beating them 38 – 28. It was the first time the Volunteers had beat the Gators in 11 years!
To celebrate the win, Tennessee School of Beauty decided to offer free Butch Jones (Head Coach of the Volunteers) Haircuts. Adam Brown, owner of TSB said “Our students want to celebrate Butch Jones and join in the excitement of the Vols snapping their losing streak against Florida. This is a big moment for the team and for fans. We look forward to giving a lot of ‘Butch’ cuts over the next two weeks.”
The school invited Coach Jones’ barber, Nate Farmer (a TSB graduate), to come to the school to give a class on how to cut the ‘Butch’ haircut.
The story was picked up by the local news and has since gone viral with over 800 Facebook shares, including making its way to ESPN where the anchors had a bit of fun photoshopping the haircut onto their pictures.
The school found a unique marketing strategy by celebrating community pride, while also giving students a great educational opportunity.
